Anston Parish Council is the lowest tier of local government for Anston. As well as the usual responsibilities of a parish council eg parish hall, allotments, recreation areas, cemetery etc. there is the added responsibility of caring for Anston Stones Wood, an area of outstanding natural beauty and a SSSI. The j31 page (named after junction 31 of the M1) is a well presented site compiled by Paul Newbold of Kiveton Park and contains photos and information about Anston and other local villages he has visited and photographed. The site has steadily improved and now includes a variety of links.

Anston lies within Rotherham Borough Council which has an Archives and Local Studies Service. Material relating to Anston, including the parish registers, can be found here. Items of interest can be found at Clifton Park Museum, Clifton Lane, Rotherham S65 2AA.

Anston Male Voice Choir has an excellent reputation for the high quality of its performances and is a good example of the many vibrant clubs and societies found in Anston. Anyone can join - as long as you are male!

SK58 Birders is the local birdwatching group. Their recording area is the OS SK58 ten kilometre grid at the centre of which is Anston. A really enthusiastic and knowledgeable bunch who have published annual reports of their sightings.

The parish church of Anston (that includes both North and South Anston) is St.James. National and diocesan church websites have not been subscribed to which makes finding out information on the internet a bit hit or miss. Signalboxes.com has a rare photo of the signal box at what was once Anston Junction, the site of which was just north of the occupation lane bridge off Pennypiece Lane.
